Wow, I’m the worst!
It’s been four (!!!) months since directing my first styled shoot, and so much has happened since then. Cliffnotes version:
I kicked off my 2019 season with two winter weddings, they were fabulous!
The dance team I coach went to nationals for the second time in school history and advanced to the final round! Yay!
LOL now I need air conditioning for my office. I’m so happy spring is finally here, woohoo!
Directing this shoot transformed how I think about weddings, and how I think about my business. Months later, it’s still teaching me things! More on that soon.
The day before, I was pretty nervous. When I’m nervous, I buy wildly expensive outfits to make me feel and look more confident. I got a dope sweater from E.B. Pepper—I’m ashamed to say it was my first time in there after living in Pittsburgh for 6 years!—and began loading in the shoot decor with Janessa and Katie.
I guess now would be the right time to share my vision: Marriage! At the Disco.
I was craving something weird, fun, and different. It was time to think outside the barn, and give the people what they didn't know they wanted: A disco-dancing inspired wedding shoot. The venue? Brillobox.
Why disco? Because--I’m quoting Wikipedia here--it touched on 'something deeply romantic, the need to move, to dance, and the need to be who you'd like to be.' And that's exactly what you'll see in our shoot.
No lol…really though…Why disco Heather? Because it was already the theme of my year outside of weddings. I chose Last Dance by Donna Summer for my dance team’s nationals song. The creativity I discovered in coaching bled right into my professional life, and I didn’t even notice! Much more on that soon.
A disco ball gown, and chic AF silk jumpsuit on loan from Blanc de Blanc Bridal.
Black four-tier glitter cake created by Four Oaks Bakery!
All the red, all the time.
Floral screen dripping with neon color and texture. Gold Dust Floral you rock my world.
RAINBOW HEELS. I found these at Macy’s lol.
Red vinyl sweetheart booth (with a shark!)
Here goes everything!
Seeing these images blew my mind! I was so proud of what we created. Guess what happened next?
WE GOT PUBLISHED!
I’ll leave it there for today, but the best is yet to come.
HUGE thank you to this vendor team, I can’t believe I call these Pittsburgh creatives my peers! Cheers y’all!
